About OSCAA

ODIA SOCIAL AND CULTIRAL ASSOCIATION OF ALBERTA (OSCAA) was started in 2019, by a group of like-minded individuals aiming to connect people in Alberta who called Odisha their home. Odisha is a lovely state on the eastern coast of India. It is renowned all over the world for the warmth of its people, as a spiritual center, for its classical and folk dances, its proud history of maritime adventurers, unique cuisine, its wealth of flora and fauna. Odisha is India’s best-kept secret!
We invite you to explore, participate and celebrate the joy of being an Odia.

Our Aim

To promote cultural integrity of Odisha
To promote social values among Odia people residing in Alberta
To encourage & provide Odia literature in Alberta
To Encourage Odia Language, Traditions and ethics among Odia Kids in Alberta
To establish, run & manage cultural events for imparting cultural heritage among the general public & local residents of Alberta

Our Objectives

OSCAA Objectives

To lease, purchase or acquire facilities to house the Association and a Jagannath Temple.
To build friendship and harmony among the Odias themselves and the people of other cultures.
To raise funds in any way to achieve the objectives of the Association. This includes but not limited to accepting gifts, donations, grants, legacies, casino fund, bequests and inheritances.
To borrow funds and lease, mortgage, sell and dispose of property of the Association and establish a line of credit to achieve the objectives of the Association.
To use funds of the Association only according to and in pursuit of these objectives or other charitable objectives; and
To actively participate in the multi-cultural and other events of different heritages.

To institute and propagate Odia culture and language to the next generation of Odia-Canadians including classes on Odia language for children.
To promote the Odia culture and heritage to the interested Canadians including people of other cultures.
To organize and perform core cultural programs of Odia heritage including sponsoring Odia artists from Odisha for performances.
To facilitate activities like yoga classes, meditation training, discourses on Scriptures.
To establish scholarships and provide financial assistance to persons pursuing studies or promoting cultural activities of Odia heritage.
To hold recreational activities among the Association Members including arts and sports
